Westlake wins Aggie Cup Update Many News In One post

Jan. 19--In a chilly, windy second round at the Aggie Cup, Austin Westlake's Stratten Nolen fired a 3-under 69 at Miramont Country Club, setting a tournament record 139 to win by one shot.

"I was hitting the ball unbelievably," said Nolen, who led his team to a repeat title Tuesday at the A&M Consolidated-hosted golf tournament. "I left a couple of putts out there. I guess I could have made about five or six more, but it happens."

Nolen, who won his second tournament of 2011, edged out teammate Daniel De La Garza by one shot. De La Garza's 140 matched the previous tournament record. Westlake also established a new team tournament mark in the two-day affair at 583, which opened Monday at Traditions Golf Club.

Nolen flew in from a tournament after winning at the Legends Junior Tour in Brownwood on Sunday.

"The weather was all right, but it seemed like a cold front came in about halfway through and that made it a lot windier," said Nolen, who claimed his championship plaque as the sun broke through for the first time in hours. "The temperature was a little cold, but not bad. I'll take it. It was a pretty good day for me."

His team broke the record it shot a year ago. Southlake Carroll took second at 602 with Lufkin in third at 608.

Bryan's Sam DeStefano led all local golfers, shooting 79 on Tuesday to finish at 157.

"I was pretty rusty," DeStefano said. "I haven't played much in the last two months. I wasn't expecting a whole lot. I just need to work on everything and touch it up a little bit."

DeStefano's layoff included having his wisdom teeth extracted.

"I had the wisdom teeth out, and then cold weather came, so I didn't get much practice in," DeStefano said. "I had a rough day on the greens today. We're working into good weather, and we'll get there."

Kameron Kitchens led Consol, shooting a final-round 79 to finish at 161. Kitchen's Consol Maroon team placed 11th at 661, getting a second-day total of 321.

Ben Hughes closed with an 80 and a 163 total to top the Consol White team, which placed 13th among the 17 teams at 687.

The Bryan Vikings were 14th, four shots behind Consol White.

"For whatever reason, the kids always play Miramont better the second day," Consol coach Justin McKown said. "The greens were in great shape, and the kids that played well made more putts."

The Consol coach says his players are working their way back after the Christmas holiday.

"The 340 we shot [Monday] was way below our average, the worst round we've shot all year," McKown said. "But we came back today with a 321. They probably took a little time off over the holidays and are probably a little rusty."

Southlake Carroll's Matt Gilchrest joined Westlake's Nolen and De La Garza as the only other golfers with a round under par. His 71 on Tuesday earned a share of fifth place. Gilchrest had a first-round 79 at Traditions.

Southlake Carroll's Blake Pugh shot rounds of 72 and 76 to take third, edging Lufkin's Will Griffin by a shot.

North Texas Has America's Richest Neighborhood

The town of Westlake, on the border between Tarrant and Denton counties is seven square miles of money. Because it's small in population (only 703 residents) but big on salaries, Forbes says the median household income is $250,000.

Who lives there? Try the Jonas Brothers. Josh Hamilton. Josh's boss Chuck Greenberg. PGA golfers K.J. Choi and Todd Hamilton. Business executive Matthew Rose of Burlington Northern Santa Fe.

Westlake also has the only municipally-owned federal charter school in the state. Accounting services firm Deloitte is building a huge $300 million training center, adding to the strong corporate presence.

If you're looking for other wealthy neighborhoods, here's what Forbes found:

1. Westlake, Texas
2. Kenilworth, Ill.
3. Mission Hills, Kan.
4. Popponsett Island, Mass.
5. Plandome, N.Y.
