Tony Romo Engaged to Candice Crawford; '40-Year-Old Virgin' Actor Shelley Malil Sentenced; 'Dexter' Star and Wife Call it Quits

Well that didn't take very long. Just as the blathering about Jessica Simpson's quickie engagement to Eric Johnson started to calm down, it has picked back up again. Not because of anything Jessica did, but because of the recently announced engagement of her Dallas Cowboy ex Tony Romo to girlfriend and former Miss Missouri Candice Crawford.

According to E! Online, Romo, who ditched Simpson in July 2009, asked Crawford to marry him on her 24th birthday while at dinner with her family. Crawford, whose brother is none other than Gossip Girl actor Chace Crawford, debuted her massive sparkler to TV station KDAF-TV, where she works as a news reporter.

Let's hope Simpson is ready for the paparazzi when they bombard her with prying questions the next time she leaves the house.

'40-Year-Old Virgin' Actor Sentenced

Shelley Malil, who played one of Steve Carell's co-workers in the wildly popular Judd Apatow film, was sentenced to life in prison Thursday for stabbing his ex-girlfriend over 20 times when he found her with another man. According to the Associated Press, the 45-year-old actor was quite penitent, apologizing to Kendra Beebe in court:

"I want to do whatever I need to do to make sure I make right from the wrong that I did. Kendra Beebe did not deserve anything that happened to her. . .I can't even begin to imagine what she has been through."

On the day of the attack, Malil testified that he visited Beebe at her home to apologize for stealing items from her home and for e-mailing personal photos of the couple to her co-workers. After finding her drinking wine with another man, he repeatedly stabbed her with a kitchen knife.

Another Split-Up

Scarlett Johansson and Ryan Reynolds. Vanessa Hudgens and Zac Efron. Michael C. Hall and Jennifer Carpenter. What do these three couples have in common? They're all un-coupled as of this week.
According to E! Online, after less than two years of marriage, Hall and Carpenter have called it quits, stating that they've been "separated for some time." However, it was Carpenter who first
filed for divorce Thursday, citing irreconcilable differences. According to the petition, they were separated as of Aug. 9.

As soon as news of their impending divorce hit the web, rumors began to swirl that the split was caused by an affair between Hall and his Dexter co-star, Julia Stiles. Stiles, though normally very private, immediately came out with a statement that the rumors were untrue.

Though it's sad that Carpenter and Hall have separated, it does seem to be an amicable split. Though we don't know how long "some time" is, Carpenter still supported Hall through his treatment for Hodgkin's lymphoma toward the end of 2009.
