Yesterday, as you're all now aware, Cooke tried to surgically remove Ryan McDonagh's head with a brutal elbow for what feels like the lucky 100th dirty hit from the controversial winger.

Pittsburgh's Matt Cooke is at it again. The Penguins winger, who was suspended for a dirty hit in early February, delivered another brutal hit in Sunday's game against the New York Rangers.

We’d say that at this point there’s little left to write about notorious Pittsburgh sleazeball Matt Cooke, but we’re sure a few of you will find some colourful adjectives that we can’t use here.

Watch Big Love Series Finale Online (Video)

Sunday's "Big Love" finale concluded with a change: its theme song, the Beach Boys' "God Only Knows," was re-recorded by the Dixie Chicks' Natalie Maines. The choice to have the song sung by a woman -- with the iconic lyrics, God only knows what I'd be without you -- became particularly poignant as the events unfolded.

Spoiler alert: After a surprisingly successful launch of a new church, Bill Hendrickson is shot and killed by a disgruntled neighbor. The family that he leaves behind is in a state of transition, as Barb seeks female empowerment, Margene considers a long trip to South Africa, and Nicki clings to the roots of tradition.

As so often happens on television, the death is followed by a celebration of life: Sarah and Scott's baby is christened in Bill's church. "It breaks my heart that Bill can't see this," Margene says, sporting a new look and, more importantly, a new outlook. We then cut to a touching shot of Bill, watching from his usual place at the kitchen table.

What did you think of the sister wives being left husbandless in the final scenes of "Big Love"? Weigh in below on the series finale.

Tahoe's BEAR League stars in Animal Planet TV show

longtime bear protection group at Lake Tahoe is the focus of an upcoming series of episodes on the national television program Animal Planet.

The three-part mini-series "Blonde vs. Bear" offers an up close look at volunteers for the Homewood, Calif.-based BEAR League as they respond to calls about bears and conflicts with humans around the lake and neighboring mountains.

The first episode is 10 p.m. Thursday with the others set for 10 p.m. March 24 and 31.

BEAR League Executive Director Ann Bryant says a film crew spent more than four months with volunteers last summer. She says they've had national media attention before but the Animal Planet shows will offer an in-depth study of the non-profit group's work to keep bears safe and wild in their natural habitat.

Tiger Woods' ex-wife Elin Nordegren has bought a $12.2 million beach-front property in North Palm Beach

Elin Nordegren has plunked down $12.2 million of her $110 million settlement for a 17,178-square-foot beach-front property in North Palm Beach, just 10 miles from Tiger's new pad in Jupiter, Fla.

According to Palm Beach County records, Nordegren bought the two-story mansion--which boasts eight bathrooms and a 4,700-square-foot basement--in February through one of her divorce lawyers, Dennis Belcher.

In October, the Swedish former model toured a $5 million penthouse apartment in Jupiter Island, where Tiger Woods' new home is being built.

Last week, Woods announced that he'd be moving into his 12-acre $50-million bachelor pad soon, which includes a 6,400-square-foot gym/media room/bar, an elevator, a reflecting pond, a lap pool, and a 3.5 acre practice facility.

"[The practice facility] features four greens, six bunkers with different depths and kinds of sand, a video center and a putting studio," Woods wrote on his blog last week. "It's also set up so I can hit shots out of my second-story studio."

The former couple, who finalized their split in August 2010, agreed to live near each other for the sake of their children, Sam and Charlie.

Ryan’s wish granted: Fargo boy on way to Florida to see Twins spring training

Ryan Hoiland loves the Minnesota Twins, and the 9-year-old is quick to point out his favorite player.

“They have a lot of great players,” said Ryan, from Fargo. “They especially have one of my favorite players, Justin Morneau.”

Through the Make-A-Wish Foundation of North Dakota, Ryan will get his chance to see the Twins up close. Ryan and his parents – Jay and Andrea Hoiland – are set to travel to Fort Myers, Fla., Thursday to be part of Twins spring training.

“It’s very exciting,” said Jay as he started to choke up with emotion.

Ryan was diagnosed with an immune deficiency at 2 years old. He needs regular infusions to help replenish antibodies in his blood.

“It’s hard on him when he goes in,” Jay said. “He gets worked up.”

Make-A-Wish and Corwin Automotive Group hosted a celebration for Ryan on Friday afternoon. Corwin is sponsoring the wish. Ryan and his family found out some of the details of their trip to Fort Myers at the gathering.

“I’m super excited for him,” Andrea said. “That’s all he can talk about.”

Ryan received a package of Twins-related gifts Friday that included a Twins jersey, a Morneau T-shirt and an autographed Morneau baseball card.

“That’s my third Morneau T-shirt,” Ryan said as he held the shirt in his hands.

Ryan will get a chance to be on the field a couple of hours prior to the Twins spring training game versus the Baltimore Orioles on Friday. He hopes to get the chance to meet Morneau.

“He’s a good slugger,” said Ryan, who will get to see two Twins games on the trip. “I just like how he plays first base.”

Dana Altendorf, director of communications for Make-A-Wish of North Dakota, said that in North Dakota, Make-A-Wish usually fulfills more than 30 wishes per year.

Volunteers Brittany Schulz, Dawn Endres and Kevin Register are wish granters who helped with Ryan’s wish. Altendorf said there are about 150 volunteers in the state.

“Volunteers are the heart of our organization,” Altendorf said. “They make everything run smoothly for us.”

Make-A-Wish is also working on fulfilling a wish for Ryan’s older brother, Drew, who is 17 and has cerebral palsy.

Kayla Foltz, the director of program services for Make-A-Wish of North Dakota, said Make-A-Wish is planning a room makeover for Drew.

Make-A-Wish is trying to target Drew’s wish for April 29, which is World Wish Day. That is the anniversary of the wish (which was in 1980) that led to the forming of Make-A-Wish.

Ryan said he can’t wait to get to Florida, not only to watch the Twins spring training games but also to go swimming.

“It would be awesome to see all the players working and practicing,” Ryan said. “I would love to see them hit and field and mostly the pitching. I’m really into pitching. … I just basically want to have fun in Florida. I heard it’s pretty warm in the spring and winter around there.”

Tsunami killed 1000 of seabirds near Hawaii BBC NEWS

Thousands of albatrosses and other endangered species at a wildlife sanctuary north-west of Hawaii have been killed by the tsunami which devastated Japan, US officials say.

Thousands of petrels and fish were also killed as huge waves swept over parts of the remote, low-lying Midway atoll.

The sanctuary is home to more than two million birds.

One lucky survivor was Wisdom, an albatross about 60 years of age, who is the oldest-known bird in the US.

The Laysan albatross came to prominence recently when she was spotted with a chick, astounding scientists that she could still raise offspring at age 60-plus.

Midway is one of the most remote coral atolls on earth, developed as a wildlife sanctuary after the US Naval Air facility on Midway Island closed in 1993.

Midway was a key military base for the US during World War II, as well as during the Korean, Cold and Vietnam wars.

Rescue operation

The US Fish and Wildlife Service reported that 1,000 adult and adolescent Laysan albatross died when the tsunami generated by last Friday's powerful earthquake off the coast of Japan struck Midway Atoll National Wildlife Refuge.

Tens of thousands of chicks were also killed.

Waves reaching 5ft (1.5m) high smashed into the atoll just before midnight local time on 10 March and continued for the next few hours.

The waves washed over 60% of Eastern Island, an islet of nearly 150 hectares (370 acres) inside the refuge.

Residents at the atoll had four hours' warning and were able to take precautions.

One chick in a short-tailed albatross nest was found unharmed about 35m away, after its nest was washed over.

Other birds were less lucky - thousands of Bonin petrels were buried alive.

Thousands of dead fish were found in the interior of Eastern Island and the impact on Laysan ducks and monk seals is unknown, the wildlife service said.

Two live green turtles were rescued.

Supermoon: Moon will appear larger than it has in 18 years Tonight

Are you ready for a “supermoon,” Seattle?

Cross your fingers extra tight, because there’s a chance the clouds will part and you’ll be in for an eyeful Saturday night.

That’s when the moon will be at perigee — the closest point in its orbit around the Earth. Perigee happens every month, but this time there’s something special going on: The moon will also be full.

That means we have all the making of a so-called “supermoon,” the largest the moon has appeared in the sky in nearly 20 years.

You might recall the “supermoon” received some attention last week, when it was erroneously blamed for causing a devastating earthquake in Japan. Besides bringing slightly higher-than-average tides, the celestial event won’t do much besides put on a good show, scientist say.

“The last full Moon so big and close to Earth occurred in March of 1993,” Geoff Chester of the US Naval Observatory said in a statement from NASA. “I’d say it’s worth a look.”

Don’t expect a “George Bailey lassos the moon” type experience; the perigee moon is still about 356,577 kilometers away. It’s about 14 percent larger and 30 percent brighter than an apogee moon (at its furthest point from the Earth).

But it might appear much bigger than it actually is, especially when viewed while low on the horizon.

NASA has this advice for sky watchers:

The best time to look is when the Moon is near the horizon. That is when illusion mixes with reality to produce a truly stunning view. For reasons not fully understood by astronomers or psychologists, low-hanging Moons look unnaturally large when they beam through trees, buildings and other foreground objects. On March 19th, why not let the “Moon illusion” amplify a full Moon that’s extra-big to begin with? The swollen orb rising in the east at sunset may seem so nearby, you can almost reach out and touch it.

So, what about that cloudy Seattle weather?

KOMO News meteorologist Scott Sistek reports that we might get lucky Saturday, with the forecast calling for partly cloudy skies.

Partly cloudy, after all, implies there will be at least some visibility.

For more on the “supermoon,” watch this video from NASA.

Stephanie Seymour & Son -- Sun Kissed on the Beach

Fame Pictures

Super-mother Stephanie Seymour, 42, showed she still has her model's body on a beach vacation with her husband and children in the exclusive resort of St. Bart's.

Pictures show the relaxed model (who had some redness and tan lines on her back from not enough sunscreen) frolicking in the surf with her family. She even shared a kiss with her billionaire husband -- Peter Brant, 63 -- with whom she was involved in a bitter divorce battle only a year ago.

The family is staying in a luxury mansion on the island which rents for $28,000 a day.

Also enjoying the vacation were children Lily, 6, Harry, 13, and Peter Jr, 17. The eldest child caused something of a stir in January when pictures of he and his mother on the same beach surfaced, showing them looking extra-affectionate.

The teenager, who is becoming a fixture on New York's social circuit in his own right, later responded to the criticism, calling "the beach kiss scandal ... a malicious attack."

Britain's Daily Mail reported the piquant detail that Seymour and her young children happened upon Yves Saint Laurent designer, Stefano Pilati, on the beach, who was sunbathing nude.

"The fashionista wrapped himself up quickly for his encounter with the former model and her children," the paper noted.

George Mason University and Duke Basketball are absolutely dominating the sports headlines on this Friday evening

Now that George Mason University pulled off a huge win over Villanova in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, the nostalgia for the 2006 run is out in full force. It's frustrating for the Patriots, I'm sure, because they are trying to create their own legacy and not merely ride the coattails of the 2006 team.

But just to get the record straight: the Patriots are staging some of the comparisons themselves. The above picture is a shot of the T-shirts the team has been wearing, which very clearly say they can be "this year's George Mason." The origin of the T-shirts was described in this Les Carpenter story.

And though it is hard to imagine his current team can get through an East region with Ohio State, Kentucky, Syracuse and North Carolina in the way, he nonetheless had T-shirts made for the players. They arrived this week. And on the back is printed the answer to the question that arises every year now from those wondering who that year's surprise Final Four team will be...

"We are this year's George Mason," they say.

Jean-Bertrand Aristide returns to Haiti, days before presidential election

U.S. officials had urged Aristide to wait until after the election to return. State Department spokesman Mark Toner said this week that the decision to come back now "can only be seen as a conscious choice to impact Haiti's elections."

Aristide's allies in Haiti denied that his return was timed to the election. And many Haitians say that Aristide had the same right to return as Duvalier.

Martelly and Manigat, conservatives locked in a competitive race, were Aristide detractors in the past, but have said they support his right to return as a Haitian citizen.

In an overture to Aristide's political supporters, Manigat has suggested that she would turn to him for help on educational issues if she is elected president. Manigat campaign signs declaring her Haiti's "mother" allude to Aristide as its "father."

But some Haitians braced for trouble.

"It's not good Aristide is coming back," said Junior Dessier, 27, a taxi driver. "The streets will be hot and there might be violence, and that could destabilize the election."

Some exultant Aristide backers compared the former Haitian leader to Jesus and said they would await a signal from him on how to vote Sunday. But one admirer, 51-year-old Howard Lafalaise, said he would vote for neither candidate.

"No, no, no," he said. "Aristide — that's it."

The Dukan Diet and Teen Girls:

What is the Dukan Diet? Apparently it’s the latest diet fad out there, and it must be pretty hot if Gisele Bundchen and Kate Middleton are backing it up! Both of these women are envied for their perfect figures, and the Dukan Diet may be the reason they find it so easy to stay thin.

The Dukan Diet is fairly similar to the celebrity loved Atkins Diet, but it has four phases that dieters are required to follow. The first phase, the “Attack” phase, consists of eating only protein, so I’m guessing that there aren’t too many options for vegetarians!

The second phase of the diet is the “Cruise” phase, and lets followers add vegetables back into the plan. The third phase is called the “Consolidation” phase, where dieters are allowed two “festive” meals, whatever that means.

The final phase of the Dukan Diet is the “Stabilization” phase, which is basically just the maintenance phase of the diet.

Supposedly Gisele Bundchen used the Dukan Diet to lose the baby weight after her son was born. But wait a minute…I thought that Gisele originally reported that she barely gained any weight? What did she need a diet for, exactly?

Kate Middleton follows the Dukan Diet faithfully, and it’s definitely working for her. But is she running the risk of getting too thin?

Would you give up your favorite foods to try the Dukan Diet?

Lee DeWyze, returned to the "Amercian Idol" stage on Thursday's (March 17) elimination show to sing his brand new single, "Beautiful Like You." Video

Guy who Ryan Seacrest calls one of the nicest contestants ever, Lee DeWyze, returned to the "Amercian Idol" stage on Thursday's (March 17) elimination show to sing his brand new single, "Beautiful Like You."

DeWyze, who narrowly defeated Crystal Bowersox (what's she up to, anyway?) to take last season's title, came off calm, cool and collected -- lessons the initially shy and stiff singer learned over the course of last year's "Idol" journey. Performing with a full band and wielding his own guitar, Lee's song -- from his first major label debut -- was a hit with the audience.

Why not? It was totally in DeWyze's sweet spot -- John Mayer-reminiscent soft rock. Non-threatening, sensitive and a perfect showcase for his understated voice.

A sampling of the potentially swoon-inducing lyrics:

"If you could only just stop, stop, stop running / If you could only take a second to breathe it in / Everything that you know would be beautiful, like you."

What do you say? Was Lee's performance beautiful?

UN Security Council allows 'all necessary measures' to protect Libyan civilians

Moving swiftly in response to a request by Arab nations, the U.N. Security Council on Thursday paved the way for international air strikes against Moammar Gadhafi's forces with its vote authorizing military action to protect civilians and a no-fly zone over Libya.

The council acted five days after the Arab League urged the U.N.'s most powerful body to try to halt Gadhafi's advancing military and reverse the realities on the ground, where rebels and their civilian supporters are in danger of being crushed by pro-government forces using rockets, artillery, tanks and warplanes.

The vote was 10-0 with five countries abstaining including Russia and China, which have veto power in the council, along with India, Germany and Brazil. Russia and China expressed concern about the United Nations and other outside powers using force against Gadhafi, and Germany expressed fear that military action would lead to more casualties.

The United States – which in a dramatic reversal joined the resolution's initial supporters Britain, France and Lebanon – not only helped push for a quick vote but pressed for action beyond creation of a no-fly zone to protect civilians from air, land and sea attacks by Gadhafi's fighters.

"This council moved with remarkable speed in response to the great urgency of the situation on the ground," U.S. Ambassador Susan Rice said. "This resolution should send a strong message to Colonel Gadhafi and his regime that the violence must stop, the killing must stop, and the people of Libya must be protected and have the opportunity to express themselves freely."

The resolution bans all flights in Libya's airspace to help protect civilians. It also authorizes U.N. member states to take "all necessary measures ... to protect civilians and civilian populated areas under threat of attack in the Libyan Arab Jamahiriya, including Benghazi, while excluding a foreign occupation force of any form on any part of Libyan territory."

U.S. officials said the resolution provides a strong legal base for enforcing the no-fly zone and for countries to carry out air and sea strikes against Gadhafi's forces.

U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton told reporters in Tunisia on Thursday that a U.N. no-fly zone over Libya would require action to protect the planes and pilots, "including bombing targets like the Libyan defense systems."

British Foreign Secretary William Hague said the three criteria for taking action – a demonstrated need, clear legal basis and broad regional support – all have been fulfilled.

"This places a responsibility on members of the United Nations, and that is a responsibility to which the United Kingdom will now respond," he said.

Libya's Deputy U.N. Ambassador Ibrahim Dabbashi, whose support for the opposition spurred many Libyan diplomats around the world to demand Gadhafi's ouster, called on the world to respond "immediately."

"The lives of the civilians are in danger right now and I expect the international community to move quickly," he said.

Britain's U.N. Ambassador Mark Lyall Grant said with the "strong legal base," Britain and a number of other countries in NATO and a number of Arab League countries "will be looking to implement those measures." Diplomats said Arab countries likely to participate in possible strikes include Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates and Jordan.

In Britain, a lawmaker with knowledge of defense matters confirmed that British forces were on standby for air strikes and could be mobilized as soon as Thursday night. The lawmaker declined to be named because the Defense Ministry has not issued official confirmation.

French Prime Minister Francois Fillon told France-2 Television that France would support military action against Gadhafi within a matter of hours after the resolution was approved.

Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said the council had taken "an historic decision" to protect civilians from violence perpetrated by their own government. "Given the critical situation on the ground, I expect immediate action on the resolution's provisions," he said.

Immediately before the vote, France's Foreign Minister Alain Juppe urged adoption of the resolution saying sanctions imposed by the Security Council on Feb. 26 aren't enough and "violence against the civilian population has been redoubled."

"We have very little time left. It's a matter of days. It's perhaps a matter of hours. We should not arrive too late," he said.

In the opposition capital Benghazi, Al-Jazeera satellite TV channel showed a large crowd watching the vote on an outdoor TV projection burst into celebration when the resolution was approved as green and red fireworks exploded in the air.

The resolution came hours after Gadhafi went on Libyan television and vowed to crush the rebellion with a final assault on Benghazi.

In an interview broadcast just before the vote, Gadhafi said, "the U.N. Security Council has no mandate. We don't acknowledge their resolutions." He pledged to respond harshly to U.N.-sponsored attacks. "If the world is crazy, we will be crazy too," he told the Portuguese public Radiotelevisao Portuguesa.

But Libya's Dabbashi said the council's action will make "the people of Benghazi ... feel safe from this time on."

"It is a clear message to the Libyan people that they are not alone, that the international community is with them and is going to help them to protect themselves," he said. "It is also a clear message to Col. Gadhafi and those who are supporting him that there is no place for dictatorship, there is no place for killing the people."

The resolution also calls for stronger enforcement of the arms embargo, adds names of people, companies and other entities to the list of those subject to travel bans and asset freezes, and requires all countries to ban Libyan flights from landing, taking off or overflying their country.

It also demands that Libya ensure the "rapid and unimpeded passage of humanitarian assistance" and asks U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon to establish an eight-member panel of experts to assist the Security Council committee in monitoring sanctions.

Russia and China had expressed doubts about the United Nations and other outside powers using force against Gadhafi, a view backed by India, Brazil and Germany who also abstained.

Germany's U.N. Ambassador Peter Wittig expressed fear that using military force could lead to "the likelihood of large-scale loss of life."

Watch Destination Truth Banshee Hunt Live Event Online

While reactions to the first "X-Men: First Class" trailer have been mixed, we weren't alone in feeling like the first footage from Matthew Vaughn's upcoming prequel film won us over and eased a lot of our fears regarding the project. Now, some new footage has arrived online courtesy of a Russian trailer for "X-Men: First Class."

Posted over at The Playlist, the new trailer offers quite a bit of new footage — specifically, some new scenes showcasing the powers of young mutant Sean Cassidy (a.k.a. Banshee). Played by Caleb Landry Jones, Banshee is seen showing off his mutant vocal abilities, and we even get a quick shot of him flying through the air.

Yes, even in Russian, the "X-Men: First Class" footage has made me a believer.

Bahrain Protester Shotting Point Blank In Shocking (Video)

Shocking video of the point-blank shooting of a protester has emerged from Bahrain.

For over a month, protests have erupted in the Gulf nation as anti-government protesters flocked to the capital city of Manama's Pearl Square. In the last few days, events have become increasingly bloody, with Saudi Arabia sending troops to the country on Monday, one of whom was shot to death. Bahraini Shi'ites called the Saudi intervention an act of "war," and subsequently, Bahraini King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa declared a state of emergency.

At that time, Nabeel Hameed, a neurosurgeon at Manama's biggest hospital, reported that protesters "were all shot from close range," adding that forces "do shoot to kill."

On Wednesday, military and security forces launched a "large-scale assault" on protesters in which at least 5 people have been killed. Protester Hamid Zuher told the AP:

"They fired tear gas and then opened fire. We lifted our arms and started saying 'Peaceful, Peaceful.' Then we had to run away."

The following video appears to show an unarmed man walking up to military forces, who shoot him at point blank range, apparently with rubber bullets.

Watch Alexandra Wallace, UCLA Student, Films Racist Rant (Video)

Wallace issued an apology Monday, saying "I cannot explain what possessed me to approach the subject as I did, and if I could undo it, I would." See more here.

--

Self-identified UCLA student Alexandra Wallace has gained national notoriety -- and more than 1,000,000 views -- for posting a YouTube video which shows her in a 3-minute long tirade against Asian students.

In the clip, called "Asians in the Library," Wallace says the "hordes of Asians" at UCLA lack American manners. She also mocks their speech and faults them for calling family in the wake of the tsunami. "I swear they're going through their whole families just checking on everybody from the tsunami thing," she said.

She continues:

All the Asian people that live in all the apartments around me...and everybody that they know that they brought along from Asia with them comes here on the weekends to do their laundry, buy their groceries, and cook their food for the week.

It's seriously without fail, you will always see old Asian people running around this apartment complex every weekend. That's what they do. They don't teach their kids to fend for themselves...

Hi. In America we do not talk on our cell phones in the library...I'll be typing away furiously, blah blah blah, and then all of the sudden, when I'm about to, like, reach an epiphany, over here from somewhere, 'OHH Ching chong ling long ting tong? OHH'

She concludes the video by saying that "even if you're not Asian you really shouldn't be on your cell phone in the library." How diplomatic.

The Daily Bruin reports that university spokesman Phil Hampton called the video repugnant, and added that the student is inquiring into whether Wallace is enrolled as a student.

WATCH Second Blast at Japanese Plant Raises Fears of Meltdown (VIDEOS)

An explosion at a nuclear reactor is not a nuclear explosion and can never be. Power plant grade uranium contains the fissile form of uranium, the uranium-235 isotope, at just a few percent, the majority is non-fissile U238. Compare that to weapons grade uranium which has to contain 80% or more of U235. Moreover, a nuclear weapon requires that a critical mass of the radioactive material be forced together quickly in a relatively small volume. This cannot happen in a nuclear plant, the low concentration of fissile U235 means it can never reach an explosively critical mass of fissile material but there is also no process that could force it together into a small volume quickly, anyway. The same applies to the mixed oxide type reactor that use plutonium oxide and uranium oxide. It should be noted that plutonium is generated by the normal operation of a uranium-using power plant, although again it is the wrong ratio of isotopes for a nuclear weapon.
Essentially, the fuel concentration in a power plant is far too low to build the high-energy neutron stream needed to cause an explosive chain reaction. As to nucleear meltdown. The term nuclear meltdown is laden with China Syndrome style drama, but it does not lead to a nuclear explosion; a lot of heat is produced, and the nuclear fuel melts (happens at about 2700 Celsius). That’s it. Moreover, the melting process leads to less fissile material being in close contact when it spreads and melts through the floor of the reactor and the rock beneath. Incidentally, the hypothetical limit on depth the molten fuel could penetrate is about 15-20 metres, not the Earth’s core. Inevitably, the chain reaction that generates the heat slows of its own accord.None of this is to say that what has happened in Japan is any less of a tragedy, it is just that phrases like nuclear meltdown and nuclear explosion used in this context in no way help, they spread fear, give tabloid headline writers scaremongering fodder, and are being hijacked repeatedly for personal agendas. Conventional explosions do occur, as we’ve learned this week from tragic events in Japan. But, these are not nuclear explosions. There is a risk of particles of radioactive material entering the atmosphere or the ocean, but this does not amount to the impact of an actual nuclear explosion.

Rick Martin Dead at 59 in Car Accident

Two weeks after being reunited on the ice in Buffalo, the Sabres' famed French Connection lost a member when Rick Martin died Sunday.

The 59-year-old was pronounced dead at a suburban Buffalo hospital at around 1 p.m., about a half hour after the car he was driving crossed the center line on the road, rolled along the shoulder and struck a utility pole before coming to rest against a tree, New York State Police Capt. Steven Nigrelli said.

Nigrelli said witnesses spotted Martin driving with his head slumped and eyes closed before the crash, which occurred in the Buffalo suburb of Clarence. Nigrelli said it appeared Martin had "an undetermined medical emergency" before the accident.

Two passers-by and eventually a state trooper performed CPR on Martin, who remained unresponsive when removed from the vehicle. Martin's German shepherd dog was also in the vehicle and stood by, Nigrelli said.

An autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of death.

Martin's death came as a shock to the Sabres, who were preparing for an afternoon game against the Ottawa Senators.

"We lost a heck of a guy today," Sabres coach and Martin's former teammate Lindy Ruff said. "It's tough when you lose anybody, and we lost a real good person today. It's a tough one to take."

Prior to the game, the Sabres honored Martin with a tribute on the center ice video scoreboard.

"It was great sadness and a heavy heart that we lost a member of the Sabre family today," longtime team broadcaster Rick Jeanneret said, as pictures of Martin were shown. "Rick Martin was a person of joy. You'll be missed `Rico,' but you will be remembered."

Breaking news: 8.9 earthquake and tsunami hits Japan. Watch live coverage (Video)

TOKYO -- Japan was struck by a magnitude-8.9 earthquake off its northeastern coast Friday, triggering a 13-foot (4-meter) tsunami that washed away cars and tore away buildings along the coast near the epicenter.

In various locations along Japan's coast, TV footage showed severe flooding, with dozens of cars, boats and even buildings being carried along by waters. A large ship swept away by the tsunami rammed directly into a breakwater in Kesennuma city in Miyagi prefecture, according to footage on public broadcaster NHK.

Officials were trying to assess possible damage from the quake but had no immediate details.

The quake that struck 2:46 p.m. was followed by a series of aftershocks, including a 7.4-magnitude one about 30 minutes later. The U.S. Geological Survey upgraded the strength of the first quake to a magnitude 8.9.

The meteorological agency issued a tsunami warning for the entire Pacific coast of Japan. National broadcaster NHK was warning those near the coast to get to safer ground.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center in Hawaii said a tsunami warning was in effect for Japan, Russia, Marcus Island and the Northern Marianas. A tsunami watch has been issued for Guam, Taiwan, the Philippines, Indonesia and the U.S. state of Hawaii.

The quake struck at a depth of six miles (10 kilometers), about 80 miles (125 kilometers) off the eastern coast, the agency said. The area is 240 miles (380 kilometers) northeast of Tokyo.

In downtown Tokyo, large buildings shook violently and workers poured into the street for safety. TV footage showed a large building on fire and bellowing smoke in the Odaiba district of Tokyo.

In central Tokyo, trains were stopped and passengers walked along the tracks to platforms.

Footage on NHK from their Sendai office showed employees stumbling around and books and papers crashing from desks.

Several quakes had hit the same region in recent days, including a 7.3 magnitude one on Wednesday.

Thirty minutes after the quake, tall buildings were still swaying in Tokyo and mobile phone networks were not working. Japan's Coast Guard has set up task force and officials are standing by for emergency contingencies, Coast Guard official Yosuke Oi said.

"I'm afraid we'll soon find out about damages, since the quake was so strong," he said.

Opening Statement from Rep. Peter King (R-NY)

Quick question - which U.S. President was the first to hold Ramadan itfar dinners at the White House, celebrating the breaking of the fast with Muslims? Hint: That same President visited Mosques more than once during his administration.

Many FOX News viewers may assume that it's President Obama. But, it was actually George W. Bush.

It's no secret that VoteVets.org had a number of issues with President Bush, most notably his decision to go to war in Iraq, and how he waged the war. However, one thing he understood, and often got right, was sending signals to reassure the Muslim world that the United States held no animus towards Islam, both in words and deeds.

I thought of President Bush as the debate heated up over Rep. Peter King's hearings today on Islam in America.

Rep. King is doing our troops no favors, as he specifically targets Muslims, and only Muslims, in his hearings on domestic terrorism. A key part of the work of our troops abroad is winning the hearts and minds of the people in any country we operate, and as of right now, most of them are Muslims. When they hear that the American government considers Islam a threat, and is investigating American Muslims, it only bolsters the message of al Qaeda and other terrorist groups that we are in a war with Islam.

Every wrong signal can be exploited, as we are in this important fight, and we must be extra-vigilant in ensuring that nothing we do aids the underlying message of our enemies, as they seek to recruit. Some signals, of course, are out of our control, like rumors that a soldier used the Quran as toilet paper at Guantanamo. But those things make it even more important that those in power do everything they can to combat the notion that we target this one religion. Peter King's hearings do just the opposite.

Now, there is no doubt that extremists who pervert the message of Islam present a threat to our security, and we need to continue to keep on top of them. Those who are protesting Peter King's hearings aren't saying we should be naïve about the threats we face - and any argument to the contrary is laughable. But, those extremists who are Muslim are not the only home-grown terrorists. In fact, just the other day, police in Washington State arrested a White Supremacist they suspect is behind the plot to set off a bomb at a Martin Luther King Day parade. I would say that plot was extremism and terrorism.

If Representative King was truly concerned about the threat of domestic terrorism, his hearings would cast a wide net, and examine every threat, regardless of heritage or religion. That would not only help us better understand threats within the United States, but would also make clear to the larger world that we do not target Muslims because of their religion.

But Congressman King doesn't seem interested in that - this is a political show to play to the fringe base, not a real attempt to better our security. And, unfortunately, it comes at the expense of our troops fighting overseas, who can't afford to have news of "a US lawma

Watch Howard Stern Wants to Give Charlie Sheen His Own Satellite Radio Channel (VIDEO)

Howard Stern's vision for Charlie Sheen, 'Jimmy Kimmel Live'Through the wonders of television technology, Howard Stern was again able to appear on 'Jimmy Kimmel Live' (Weeknights, 12AM ET on ABC) without the bother of having to fly there. The pair have used green-screen magic for interviews before, and it remained almost seamless.

This time, Stern was on to explain his ideas for what to do with Charlie Sheen now that he's running out of places to do interviews, and 'Two and a Half Men' is still done for the season. Stern has feelers out to Sheen with an offer to be a part of one of Stern's Sirius radio stations.

"We want to put a microphone in your house," he said. "Anytime you feel like going on the radio and doing a radio show, we'll break into our programming and you can have control of the airwaves ... Charlie Radio 24 hours a day, because there's nothing better than that."

Update: It appears this may actually be happening. Sirius just announced it's launching a 24-hour all-Sheen channel called 'Tiger Blood Radio.' Sheen is not officially affiliated with the station, but would anyone be surprised if he graced the new channel with an interview or seven? Actually, he'll probably be hosting by Tuesday. That's what we call #winning.

Tericka Dye (Tera Myers , Rikki Andersin) Former Porn Star Teacher Resigned Due to Porn Scandal (Video)

Tericka Dye (Tera Myers , Rikki Andersin) Former Porn Star Teacher Resigned Due to Porn Scandal (Video)
high school science teacher just lost her second job in a row because parents found out she starred in a few porn flicks back in the mid-'90s under the name Rikki Andersin. She's moved on since then, gotten the appropriate education to become an educator, and even used different names -- Tera Myers, Tera Dye -- to distance herself from her past. But five years ago, administrators in Paducah, Kentucky suspended her when they found out about her past, eventually determining she'd be a "distraction" to her students.

Really? Because you'll never guess how the administrators at her latest school in St. Louis found out she was a porn star.

A student brought it up. Yes, a student. Which proves that kids, ahem, know about porn. After four years at the Parkway North school, going by Tera Myers, teaching science and coaching volleyball, she kept her trap shut. But a kid watching porn figured it out.

And if parents are honest with themselves, their problem isn't that their kid's teacher was in porn. It's that their kids figured it out. Because, let's say it again, kids know about porn! In fact, in a survey in 2007, 42 percent of teenagers copped to viewing pornographic materials online. That's nearly half the teens in America doing something they shouldn't.

On the other hand, Ms. Myers, Dye, Andersin, whatever she goes by these days, never did anything icky (or illegal) like sharing the porn with her students. In fact, she's never done anything illegal, period, because porn films made by two consenting adults are a legitimate business -- whether you view them or not is up to you. They don't show up on her educational background checks because, again, they're legal
