The NFL combine 2011 is a big step towards the draft. Today, the NFL combine 2011 welcomes the first batch of potential draft picks, in the most uncertain draft season ever.
This is one of the few events not altered by the possibility of a lockout, although the actual rookies will be affected later. They are working hard to impress teams right now, even though their rookie season might not be until 2012. Nevertheless, the NFL combine 2011 is going on as scheduled over the next four days.
The potential top draft picks have already done a lot to get noticed. However, this four-day event is their biggest workout to date, as college stars can make or break their draft status here. Of course, there is a lot to go through before the actual workouts start.
Technically, the NFL combine 2011 doesn't really get going until Saturday. Until then, specific groups of players will be arriving at Indianapolis, to go through three days of tests first. Today, place kickers, special teams players, offensive line players and tight ends begin the process, as they go through medical tests, interviews and orientation.
Tomorrow, they will undergo measurements, psych tests and interviews, and then meet with the player's union on Friday. On Saturday, they finally get to work out on the field, and show themselves off to the 32 teams.
In addition, the NFL combine 2011 begins tomorrow for quarterbacks, wide receivers and running backs, as they undergo the same four day process. As such, their on-field workouts are held on Sunday. On Friday, defensive linemen and linebackers show up, and get to work out on Monday. On Saturday, the defensive backs appear, and hold the last workouts of the week on Tuesday.
Today's group includes the likes of Von Miller and Kyle Rudolph, although tomorrow's players stand to get the most attention. Cam Newton, Jake Locker, A.J. Green, Julio Jones and Mark Ingram are among those scheduled to work out on Sunday. Nick Fairly, Patrick Peterson and Da'Quan Bowers lead those arriving on the weekend.
After the NFL combine 2011, teams will have less than two months to take from it what they will. Some may overreact to certain players doing good or bad, and adjust their plans accordingly.
Others might not be affected that much, as their plans may already be set by now.
Yet the NFL combine 2011 is the best chance to have those plans altered before draft day. Players like Newton have been rising up the board in earlier warm ups, but they can really seal the deal with a big display in Indianapolis.
